Summer is a great time to spend extra time outdoors and enjoy the weather! While your poodle may

enjoy the extra playtime, it’s important to ensure that your furry friend remains safe in the summer sun! Below are a few tips to make sure that your poodle stays cool and safe this summer.

Be Safe

Of course, safety is the top priority when it comes to your pup.

Concrete and asphalt are significantly hotter on your poodles’ feet. The general rule of thumb is that if the outside temperature is above 85 degrees Fahrenheit, it is too hot for your dog to walk for extended periods comfortably. If you want to double-check, you can place your bare hand or bare foot on the pavement for around 10 to 15 seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog!

To combat the hot asphalt, you can walk your dogs early in the morning and evening as the day cools down. There are also all-natural protecting salves that you can apply to your pups’ paws to help. Or, you can invest in some booties.

Hydrate

Your pup needs lots of water to stay healthy and safe in warmer weather! Make sure your poodle has lots of access to fresh, cold water throughout the day.

Tip: you can even fill a kiddie pool with fresh water for them to splash around in!
